  13. KA9Q-NOS for Atari ST Beta Version 0.10

  16. The following notes are a quick guide to setting up the NOS version of KA9Q.
  17. This version of the program is in an early stage of development for the 
  18. Atari ST and more complete instructions will be created at a latter date.
  19.  
  20. Release 0.10 has been rebuilt for the ST from the DIS supported KA9Q for the
  21. IBM PC.  This means that the internet code is as up to date as I can find, and
  22. is a major advance on the amiga code level used for the 0.0x betas.  I am 
  23. still working on the port to the DIS code.  There are various additions to the 
  24. previous ST programs which are not present in this Version.  These will be 
  25. added shortly.

  27. The NOS programs requires the following directories and files:-

  29.         startup.nos                     
  30.         domain.txt
  31.         ftpusers
  32.         dial.txt
  33.         alias
  34.  
  35.         finger\
  36.  
  37.         spool\
  38.  
  39.         spool\mail\
  40.  
  41.         spool\mqueue\
  42.         spool\mqueue\sequence.seq
  43.  
  44.         spool\news\nntp.dat
  45.  
  46. By default all paths are relative to the root directory of the drive from
  47. which NOS was started.  Thsi can be changed by starting nos with the -d 
  48. flag.  For example:-

  50.         nos -dg:\nos
  51.  
  52. would casue nos to look for g:\nos\startup.txt and g:\nos\spool etc.

  54. You can also set the root directory by setting the NOS_ROOT enviroment
  55.  variable.  For example:-
  56.  
  57.         NOS_ROOT=g:\nos
  58.  
  59. This method requires a shell or utility program which allows you to setup the 
  60. enviroment.

  62. NNTP - netnews
  63.  
  64. There has been a lot of changes in the NNTP code.  The news groups to fetch
  65. can now be specified in the nntp.dat file. This takes priority over the
  66. startup file.  If batch mode is turned on all the news will be written into 
  67. a single file for latter processing.

  69. The netnews newsgroups are specified in the startup.nos file, as is the NNTP 
  70. profile.  The demon news server is news.demon.co.uk
  71.  
  72. You may want to update the nntp.dat file in spool\news to change the date and 
  73. time values to something recent, to prevent a large flood of news on your first
  74. connection.

  77. The dialer

  79. This version of ka9q has a dialer facility.  This uses the dial.txt file which
  80. must ben placed in the NOS root directory.  You can setup the connection to 
  81. demon with the command

  83.                 dial sl0 dial.txt

  85. There are currently a few problems with the dialer.  I know that the first 
  86. character of some of the login messages is missing and that cwait can give
  87. problems, however I am currently using the supplied dial.txt file for all
  88. my connections.  It is much easier than using a seperate terminal program 
  89. to do the login
